Great Grandma's Apple Pie       from the kitchen of: Alice Davies

Here is Great Grandma's recipe for apple pie. She used a 9 inch pie crust or pastry shell.

6-8 apples, peeled, cored, sliced

Then mix together:

1 cup sugar (if the apples are sweeter than tart, you can use 3/4 cup)
2 TBSP flour
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp grated lemon peel (I sometimes just use a tsp of lemon juice)
pinch of ground cloves
pinch salt

Toss apples in the mixture & put in pie pan.

Then mix together:

1/2 cup flour
1/4 cup sugar
pinch salt
1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese
1/4 cup (half stick) melted butter

This will create the crumbly topping you'll put over the apples. Top with upper crust, pinching it to seal with the bottom crust, & cut a few slits in the top.

Bake for 35-40 minutes at 400 degrees, making sure the edges don't get too brown (you can put a little foil over the crust edges if desired, but not required).
